SAB Spotlight: Philippe Froguel

ScieNFT is proud to be working with Dr. Philippe Froguel, a member of our Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Froguel is a highly accomplished clinical scientist and geneticist who has made significant contributions in the field of genomics and genetics of multifactorial frequent diseases, with a focus on metabolic diseases in humans. He is currently the Head of the Department of Genomics of Common Disease at the School of Public Health at Imperial College London, where he was elected in 2007. Dr. Froguel has been elected to the Section Committee for Cellular and Developmental Biology, Microbiology, and Immunology, Genetics, and is highly respected by his peers.

Dr. Froguel's work in genetics and genomics has been groundbreaking, as he has identified several genes that play key roles in metabolic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. He identified glucokinase as the first gene involved in T2D, then went on to identify HNF1, which is involved in beta cell differentiation. Dr. Froguel's group also identified a polymorphism in the Kir 6.2 potassium channel that determines an increased risk for T2D, as well as the involvement of the leptin and melanocortin 4 receptor genes in human obesity.

Dr. Froguel's research has contributed greatly to our understanding of the genetic basis of metabolic diseases, and his work continues to shape the field of genomics and genetics today. In addition to his work at Imperial College London, Dr. Froguel also serves as Directeur de Recherche of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and of a Research Unit at the Pasteur Institute in Lille, France.
